My Baby Is Growing Up
My son is going to be two years old on Tuesday. It is hard for me to remember just how small he really was, he has grown so fast. He fills my days with fun, and laughter. He is a sweet, silly little boy who loves to play and give hugs and kisses. Robbie was born on January 6, 2007 three weeks early. He was due on January 28th. The weeks before - we celebrated Christmas with friends and I was doing really well. I felt great, but I was a bit tired. I was, after all, huge! The next party was to be held on New Years Eve, but my husband and I skipped that one since I was feeling pretty tired. On the 5th, I went to the OB/GYN to have my appointment and have a test run. I was told that I was dialated 2cm and that everything seemed normal. I had to wait until the following week for the results from the test. That night I came home very excited that I was already dialated, and started working around the nursery getting things in order. My husband said that I seemed ‘high’ on the hormones or something….that night I went to bed as usual. At 2am I woke to my water breaking…I woke my husband and told him what had happened. He said that I should wake him when something was happening, and he went back to sleep. I got up and called the doctor. I was feeling a little sick to my stomach cause I realized that it was time - there was no going back, our child was going to be born. We didn’t know the sex of the baby, so we were pretty excited to meet him/her.We had to pack my hospital bag since I hadn’t done it yet (we thought we had a few more weeks) and we had to get the car seat into the car. After we had everything together, we got to the hospital which was about 20-25 minutes away at around 3:45 am. By this time the contractions were coming pretty fast. I tried to walk to the section of the hospital that we needed to get to, but a nurse ended up having me ride in a wheel chair cause I kept stopping because of the contractions. When we got to the Triage, I was checked again at about 4am and I was 7cm dialated. They moved me to the delivery room as soon as they could. I requested the room with the birthing tub, but later found out that I couldn’t use it because I was moving too fast…at 6 am I started pushing and at 6:32am our son was born, healthy and without any medication being taken by me. We named him after my husbands two younger brothers - Robert James. He was 6lbs 15oz and 21″ long. He had dark hair and as soon as he was born had a APGAR score of 9 and then got a 10 shortly after. He learned to walk at 11 months and has been on the move ever since. He is a very active boy and loves playing out side and loves his doggies. He likes tractors and school busses. For his birthday he is going to have a pig shaped cake (he really likes pigs right now) and we are going to take him on a train ride (another thing he really loves right now). We got him a Geo Air set from Fisher Price. One great thing about him being born so close to Christmas - is that we get the after Christmas sales - I got this toy for $30, marked down from $50.I am excited to see his face on his birthday - to see him when he opens his gifts and to see if he tries to blow out his candles on his piggy cake
